Automotive manifold shape design explorations using coupled 1D/3D-CFD simulations

The presentation shows examples of automated design exploration and optimization powered by CAESES for automotive manifolds. CAESES is used for geometric variation of the manifolds by various approaches including fully-parametric modeling as well as morphing of existing geometries. The process workflow is then automated using coupled 1D/3D-CFD simulation tools (specifically, GT-Suite by Gamma Technologies and  STAR-CCM+® by Siemens PLM).

At first, the importance of a proper modelling setup which enables the combination of low computational costs and high fidelity is presented. Secondly, results are briefly presented and discussed for the examples with particular emphasis on the influence of the main geometrical features of the manifolds on the engine performance.
