CFD simulation of a clutch running-in testbench

One of the final steps in the manufacturing process of a clutch is the so-called running-in. For this purpose the complete clutch assembly will be put into an automated test environment, where the clutch basket and the steel lamellas are kept fixed while the friction plates are being rotated. During certain time intervals the friction and steel lamellas are pressed together. The resulting heat due to friction is removed by means of oil cooling. 

A modeling approach of the clutch in the test bench environment will be introduced and finally a comparison to temperature measurement results will be presented.
