This study involves the analysis of a three stage borehole pumps in all its possible operating range. This kind of pump, even if equipped with centrifugal impeller, presents some geometrical design constraints that could lead to very specific behaviors, not fully predicted by common pump design theory. Starting from years of industrial know-how, a reliable and robust virtual CFD model is however desirable to support engineers predicting primarily off-design pump behavior.
As the first step of a wider project about new product design, it is really important to define a validated virtual baseline to speed-up the performance evaluation of every design option, reducing meanwhile prototyping costs.
The final phase of this work involves real test comparison and results correlation to allow engineers to feel comfortable with numerical results reliability.
