Ice accretion aerodynamics simulation

The engineering problem is the estimation of the ice mass on an aircraft during critical flight conditions. The study has been focused on the ice accretion phenomenon on an airfoil in different weather conditions involving different ice shapes and different aerodynamics impacts.

Experimental validation of DES model for a wing

The flow around a wing is usually well represented by a RANS simulation in cruise conditions, when no zones of separated flow are present. On the contrary, as the angle of attack increases because of the request of higher lift values, the flow separations become important, and the flow is more complex.
