Rupture risk assessment for intracranial aneurysms

Intracranial aneurysms, which are dilatations of the cerebral vasculature, can be prone to rupture. To assess the patient-specific rupture risk, hemodynamic parameters are acquired using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). However, the impact of the vessel wall is mostly neglected. To overcome this limitation, precise vessel wall imaging was performed in a 33-year old male human, who died due to aneurysm rupture. Furthermore, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations were carried out considering patient-specific and constant vessel wall thickness, respectively.
