Effects of meshing strategies on in-cylinder flows

The presentation shows the impact of different meshing strategies on the simulation of the in-cylinder flow structure of the Transparent Combustion Chamber (TCC) engine. Large Eddy Simulation of several consecutive engine cycles are compared to experimental measurements, and the impact of the adopted meshing trategy on both accuracy and computational efficiency is evaluated.

Pöyry is an international consulting and engineering company that serves clients globally in the energy and industrial sectors. Pöyry being a “connected company”, applies Computational Fluid Dynamics as a tool to solve complex engineering problems that tangent a broad spectrum of its engineering services worldwide. Current presentation is focused on waste water treatment plants and the way how various issues are analyzed and resolved using CFD.  

Conjugate heat transfer for cylinder head

Cylinder head temperatures are critical for understanding engine performance and durability. Accurate predictions of head temperatures are difficult due to the amount of physics interacting with the head. These interactions such as heat release due to combustion, valve heat transfer and friction, internal and external cooling, and oil splash cooling all contribute to head temperatures. To predict head temperature, a conjugate heat transfer (CHT) analysis integrating all of the interactions was performed.
